Are GMO foods really good for us?

Obviously they’re not.  That’s my opinion.  But since different people have different views about the food they eat, there should be mandatory labeling for GMO containing foods, and those that are completely free of GMO ingredients.

GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms, and refers to foods that come from organisms that have had their DNA changed in deliberate ways by genetic engineering.  That statement alone should veer you towards the Non-GMO faction.  I wanted to call the title of the article, ‘Are creating GMOs playing God with our food?’, but I realize that many people are atheists or agnostics and don’t like the word or concept of God.  But it’s true.  DNA is the fundamental language of creation, what forms our proteins into what is uniquely you, and contaminating the DNA of our foods cannot be good for anyone.

What Monsanto and other big biotech companies have done through scientific research and experimentation and development is create corn and other cash crops with insecticides and pesticides built in to the DNA of the food crop.  So it is simple reasoning that if the corn itself kills insects, it will kill you too.  Slight overstatement, but its pretty good reasoning.

These powerful insecticides and herbicides are like using too much antibiotic to treat bacterial infections in people, it creates superbugs and superweeds that are resistant to said chemicals and therefore more needs to be used in the field to get the same result.  It’s been proven that insecticides in the blood of pregnant mothers causes birth defects in their children.  And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

And since nature cannot really be controlled, there is inevitable seed drift from the farms that grow GMO crops to the ones that don’t, so really, this is a problem that will never be fully solved.  The GMO crops have already been released into the biosphere and will never be removed, even if people quit cultivating these crops.

GMO foods are banned in many developed countries, including Japan, Australia, and all the countries in the European Nation.  They obviously have higher standards of food purity, and many foods allowed in the USA are illegal in these countries, including margarine, the worst food invention ever.

In polls of the American people, it is clear that the majority wants proper labeling of GMO containing items.  By now, 90% of corn in the USA is genetically modified, and there are a half dozen other major crops that are tampered with, including 91% of soybeans and over 80% of cotton.

To me this is madness, a sign of mankind’s collective arrogance that they think they can tamper with nature in order to create more profitable crops.  Since not all people are on the same side of the argument, I will conclude that there should be GMO labeling in America, and people should really take an effort to buy organic or labeled Non-GMO foods, because the damage has been done and we can now only minimize it.
