Daysahead: Music That’s Ahead of Our Time

A performing group that is truly well ahead of their time, Daysahead rocks the stage, literally, with what they like to call “Jazz-n-Roll”. The group is comprised on a jazzy soulstress and a relentless rocker as a guitarist. The “jazz approach to rock and soul” doesn’t get any better than this.

This artistic duo has the ability to fuse music in a way that is inclusive of a variety of genres, yet maintains a sultry method to the madness. Their music is energetic, moving, relatable, and beautiful. What’s even more interesting is that, off-stage, this duo is in a romantic relationship which influences a variety of the emotion portrayed in their music. The duo also performs as a quartet (vocal, guitar, bass & drums), which is also a treat. Daysahead is talented at creating their own composition, as well as creating fresh and innovative arrangements of other artists’ work.

I was personally introduced to this duo’s musical splendor in 2009 at one of Atlanta’s most personable performance venues, the Apache Café. Admittedly, my first thought when they took the stage was, “oh, no…another singer and guitarist”. My reservation was cancelled the Kim, vocalist/lyricist/songwriter, opened her mouth. Furthermore, Steve, guitarist/producer/songwriter, created a hypnotic ambiance in the building with his guitar heroism. I was completely blown away by this duo’s performance! In fact, I purchased a cd the same night and ordered another online for a friend, which I rarely ever do after witnessing a performance for the first-time.

Formed in 2003, Daysahead has since moved crowds all over the world, including those at the 2009 Intwasa Arts Festival in Zimbabwe, Africa sponsored by the U.S. Embassy, the Capital Jazz Festival, Atlanta Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Capital Jazz Supercruise  of Bermuda)NY Harborfest, Live! On Woodrow Wilson Plaza, and the Berkshire Hills Music Academy.

The group’s name serves them well as I predict that they’ll be around for many days to come. Daysahead will be performing at Jazz in the Garden hosted by The National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden in Washington, District of Columbia in July 2010. If you can’t make it to Washington, don’t worry—you can still get a taste of their music by visiting www.daysaheadmusic.com
