“Don’t throw that out! Everything that goes out comes back in style”. Have you ever heard someone say that? I always thought that wasn’t true until I began looking at my own wardrobe and doing some research. I found that over the years many things have indeed come back in style. Here are 4 examples that are trending today that are a blast from the past.
1) Palazzo Pants – These comfortable pants are one of today’s hottest trends that were taken right from 1970’s. In that time period you would see people wearing pants that had a bell bottom finish, some even with outrageous colors and patterns. These are currently back in style and are worn mostly by females in the warmer summer months. Many women like them because they are able to stretch, are flattering, and are very light. Pair with your favorite sandals and you are good to go. Just don’t be afraid to go for the big prints too!
2) Denim Jackets – Denim Jackets are the perfect addition to throw on over any outfit to make it more interesting or even to keep you warm during those cool summer nights by the water. The most popular denim jacket colors are white and classic navy denim. Denim recently hit its peak back in 2000 where the infamous picture of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake are photographed wearing head to toe denim! All denim outfits are even coming back as well, believe it or not. Rihanna recently wore a full denim outfit in the gas station scene in her new video. Very few can pull off that combination.
3) Crop Tops & High Waisted Jeans – Crop tops paired with high waisted jeans were very popular during the 1980s. Kelly Kapowski for example, from the hit TV series Saved By The Bell, was always known for her fashion. She was photographed many times in high waisted loose fit jeans/shorts and a tiny crop top. Many girls gravitate towards this look when going out to a party or simply keeping cool for summer. This look can be casual or chic as well. Even the 1950’s “pin up look” include loose fit shorts, paired with a crop top of their choice. Many women at that time also wore crop tops with long shirts that stopped above the ankle. These loose fit jeans are sometimes even referred to as “mom jeans”. I currently have a pair from Brandy Melville and they are awesome!
4) Big earrings and statement necklaces- The 1980’s are best known for big hair, big colors, and big jewelry. Today so many people are choosing to wear an outfit with pastels and pairing it with bold jewelry pieces such as necklaces, earrings, bracelets or rings. These items usually have multiple colors and include shapes such as arrows, squares, hoops and crosses. It can really draw the attention to different areas and is a great way to express personality.
So next time you’re cleaning out your closet, don’t be so quick to throw out things that you think may be outdated. You never know… in 20 years you could be the next trendsetter.
