Behind the brand, Janerations, is a woman very well acquainted with her roots, this year expressing her Eastern European backgrounds all over Couture Fashion Week. She wants the world to share in her history deeply intertwined in handmade designs of incredible quality. Now with great success, Janerations has reached its 5th year! I enjoyed the wonderful opportunity of getting to know the ambitious designer as well as dig deeper into her current Fall 2013 collection.
What was your inspiration behind this Fall 2013 collection? “My life and my friends in Eastern Europe. I was an engineer in my country so I love good quality and elegant clothes handmade.” She also reveals the aim her collection, which is to be classic and “fashionable always.”
How does this particular collection differ from your last? In this collection I used more expensive cashmere and better quality material. It is more wearable because you can wear these pieces from work, put jewelry on and go to a restaurant to meet with friends.”
What kind of girl would you describe would wear Janerations? (laughingly) “EVERYONE! Everyone who likes quality, and likes handmade items.” She describes that her collection does not shout out from the rooftops but is more complementary to the beauty of the woman wearing it.
Which piece is your favorite? “This one named Imenik!” Janina’s face brightens as she points to a cable knit sweater jacket with plush striped fur, lining its collar, cuffs, and along the jacket’s ‘cut on bias’ tail. (It feels like a heaven!)
What movitivated you to begin designing? and what continues to inspire you? Janina has always been a creative person with eager hands, knitting children’s clothing, sheets, as well has interior designing. She loves to place her own touch on the ordinary things around her. In fact, this is how she began on her thriving brand. She used to knit and design her own clothing, causing pandemonium wherever she went! People were intrigued by her intricate details using glass beads, cashmere, fur, and silk so much that her handmade creations grew in popularity. However her success was not a game of chance but of focus and perserverance. She states, “Life pushed me here. I didn’t just sit and wait for an opportunity.”
