A 1962 novel written by Madeleine L’Engle name, A Wrinkle in Time, a time-travel fantasy story has turned into a film that will soon come out on March 9, 2018.
The film, like the novel is about an adolescent name Meg Murry, who travels across dimensions to save her scientist father. Her scientist father Alexander created the tesseract, which allows him to wrinkle in time and travel across the universe. She is guided by three guardian angels called “The Mrs.” The director Ava Duvernay stated to Time Magazine that she just wasn’t casting for actresses. “I was casting for leaders—icons.” Therefore she chose Mindy Kaling, to play Mrs. Who, Oprah Winfrey to play Mrs. Which, and Reese Witherspoon to play Mrs. Whatsit.
During an interview with Cinema Blend, the actress Reese Witherspoon opened up about her feelings towards the movie:
“I really was excited when Ava explained her vision for the film. She wasn’t going to do sort of ‘classic’ … Because I read the book as a little girl. And she was like, ‘I’m going to deviate a lot. I want to have the house in Downtown LA. I want the kids to be all different ethnicities. I want kids to watch this movie and know that anything’s possible.’ I get emotional thinking how little kids going to the theater to actually see a character and an actor that looks like them makes them think it’s possible. And also, to have women who are heroes, who are all different sizes and all different races, because women are the heroes of a lot of kids’ lives. To see that properly represented is way overdue and exciting. I think it’s exciting to have a director with that kind of vision, and Disney’s belief in her to give her an incredible amount of creative control and free reign to create this magic.”
The novel is partly autobiographical, as mentioned in Time Magazine. As a girl, the writer, L’Engle had felt awkward and unwanted. At her home in the afternoon, she would write stories with heroes she yearned to be like. However, when she created Meg Murry, she crafted one who shared what she felt personally. The character Meg in the novel, struggles in school after her father has vanished and she is also anxious and angry and unsettled by the unjust act around her.
Experts are predicting that the movie, A Wrinkle in Time, can also be on the top spot at the box office. It is said that it can possibly beat “Black Panther,” which will eventually start slowing down its numbers at the box office.
