The first solar-powered town name Babcock Ranch which is powered by electricity generated by the sun, is owned by the master developer Kitson & Partners, a real estate and development firm based in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Lisa Hall from Babcock Ranch Media Department explained that the town is not fully built yet. “Phase 1 of the town was built in October of 2015. The first buildings were built in the downtown district (Founder’s Square) in June of 2016. The first businesses (Restaurant, our Discovery Center, and an outdoor Outfitters Store) opened on March 10, 2017.” She added that….”first model homes also opened at that time.” Before the first residents moved in the past summer, the first school opened in August of 2017 for grades Kindergarten through 6. “It opened at full capacity with students from areas all around our new town and construction is now underway for a much larger capacity school building that will be opening in time for the start of school next August for students K-8,” stated Lisa.
More buildings and businesses have opened in November 2017 and December 2017, while the final building which is at Founder’s Square, a massive health and wellness facility, will be completed as stated by Lisa…..”in time for what we are considering the official grand opening of our new town on March 10, 2018, less than a month away. So the short answer is—Babcock Ranch is being built as we speak. We are just at the point of a grand opening for the first phase of construction of a brand new town that will eventually have 19,500 residences and 6 million square feet of commercial space for an estimated population of 50,000 people.”
There is always something interesting occurring at the well-known Founder’s Square, downtown, Babcock Ranch. Children can play in the park. People can have breakfast, brunch, or even dinner at the fine-restaurant “Table & Tap.” People can experience a live concert while purchasing vegetables and fruits at the farmer’s market. “As such, all of the town amenities are for all to come and enjoy, not just for residents. Visitors are welcome to explore our miles of trails, paddle our lakes, cast a line from our fishing docks, and participate in a wide variety of weekly, monthly and quarterly events. Our farm-to-table restaurant features fresh, locally-sourced dishes. Visitors can take guided tours of the new community on the weekend and take a ride on the first of many self-driving shuttle vehicles that we are introducing here. They can rent kayaks, paddleboards, canoes or bicycles from Curry Creek Outfitters to explore by water or land,” said Lisa.
Babcock Ranch will be continuing for another 20 more years in construction. For more information visit www.Babcockranch.com.
