Black Lives Matter Movement And It’s Importance

Founders of Black Lives Matter Movement: Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, Opal Tometi radicated the movement in the year 2013. It is now a movement that has established more resonance. Specifically on this year 2020. With all that’s been going unjustly with African Americans.

In the year 2012, a 17 year old African American teen Trayvon Martin was fatally shot. A man name George Zimmerman shot him. Zimmerman had dialed 9-1-1. He claimed that the teenager seemed suspicious.

The dispatcher suggested George not to follow Trayvon. Zimmerman insisted and did so. Only to later shoot the teen. Teenager Martin died. His death lured the media. And that’s how the movement–Black Lives Matter was created.

Stories like that of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and so many more, have brought much more attention to BLM movement. Particularly that of George Floyd. An officer pressed his knee on Floyd’s back of the neck. Until Floyd could no longer breathe.

The phrase “Say His Name” immediately surfaced especially on Instagram. Literally bringing awareness of the police brutality George Floyd suffered. Since Floyd had passed away.

Later, the phrase “Say His Name,” went from also “Say Their Names.” Owing to those African Americans whose lives were taken away by law enforcement. Many of their cases are still opened and arrests haven’t been made. Except for just a few.

Black Lives Matter Movement goal is to bring conciousness to defend Black Lives from officers and others. The Movement is also trying to make Juneteenth a Federal Holiday.

June 19, is known as the day of emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans. All from the alliance. It is of importance history for African Americans after going through slavery many years ago.

Black Lives Matter Movement has chapters. The chapters are located in different cities. Cities such as Boston, New York City, Toronto, etcetera providing information on events. The movement which is actually a global movement takes pride in celebrating everything. All in celebration to African Americans. For example, Black Futures Month which happens annually in the month of February.
