The Geeky Style History Of Casual Clothes

Back then, there were no words such as “geek style,” or the “nerdy style.”

It was in the mid 1970s when Paul Allen and Bill Gates initiated Microsoft. Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs on the other hand started Apple. Their workers wore comfortable clothes like polos, t-shirts, jeans, sweaters, and button-ups.

In the early 1980s, Steve Jobs employees didn’t like his idea. They didnt want to wear uniforms. Steve Jobs decided to hire a fashion designer. The fashion designer name Issey Miyake made 100 black turtlenecks for employees. Later on “The Apple Collection” a fashion line was launched in 1986.

By the 1990s, many employees in companies were selecting for casual clothes. Instead of wearing ties and suits they wanted to wear comfortable clothes.

In the mid 2000s, when women were working in technology businesses too started dressing nerdy. On August 28, 2013, the phrase “Geek Chic” was placed in the Oxford Dictionary.

Fashion designer, Marc Jacobs became the first designer on the runway to bring forth “Geek Styles.” His models modeled on the runway with clothes that were known to style a geek look on someone. Those clothes were knee socks, sleeve shirts, cropped blazers, short sleeve, and prints on clothes. For Marc Jacobs accessories turned into a major category, even for Dolce and Gabbanna.

This style of clothes has played a major a role for movies like, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars. It continues to be a business casual type of uniform for many jobs. It is only because it looks cool for movies and makes a person portray intelligence. Also, professionalism at work.
