Kevin Jenkins is a famous bassist and vocalist. From Tokyo’s Budokan to London’s famous Albert Hall to NYC’s Madison Square Garden – in his 38 year career, professional bassist Kevin Jenkins has played them all. He’s opened for Michael Jackson, The Police, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, BB King, and Joe Cocker.
‘Til The Story’s Told’-Kevin Jenkins’ sophomore follow-up to his debut CD ‘Step Inside’ was conceived and written at a time surrounding the loss of his father, his new happy marriage, and the birth of a grandchild. With it’s intimate ‘Black Americana’ sound palate and story song structures ‘Til The Story’s Told’ more than aptly illustrates Kevin’s attempt to look more deeply into the heart of love, loss, acceptance, and the magic of new beginnings.
This new EP has a very “homely” feel and sounds great. The EP contains 9 awesome songs that can be compared to Bill Withers, Ray LaMontagne, Beck and even Stevie Wonder. On this album, Kevin Jenkins is on lead vocals and bass guitar, Tomas Doncker (Who I reviewed earlier in the month) is on guitars and vocals, Mo Roberts is on drums, Michael Faulkner is on drums and vocals, Nick Rolf is on keyboards, David Barnes is on harmonica, Alan Grubner is on violin and finally Heather Powell is on vocals.
Unlike many artists, Kevin is known for his amazing ability to harmoniously negotiate rhythm and melody flawlessly and in any format –rock, folk, blues, fusion. This makes him stand out from the others and is also why a wide range of musical stars and groups have called on his talent over the years.
I personally recommend that you check this great artist out and listen to his previous work. You can listen to his single, Janie’s Silver Lining below. Enjoy!
