Ooh La La’s fourth fashion show went off without a hitch at the Allegria Hotel in Long Beach, New York Saturday night. The vibe was flirty, sassy, sexy, and fun with a dose of heart as the line partnered with Habitat for Humanity and turned out a funky fundraising event. One hundred percent of ticket sales went to efforts to build or restore homes for those less fortunate and Long Beach’s finest did come out in force to support the cause.
As the crowds gathered around the lit up catwalk in the main lounge they were treated to a sassy live performance of her latest release “Notice Me” by Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of Billy Joel. In true Ooh La La form, Alexa Ray strutted onstage in a feisty red number by the Ooh La La and delighted both the crowd and her dad who sat in the audience.
Sonic Eclectic got to hang backstage with the models as they prepared to high step it on the runway. Music pumped over chatter and giggling, feathers, lashes, make-up, shoes, and Red Bull as the girls scrambled to get ready and stay focused. Designer Jenny Montiglio shared that her stress level at that moment was at about seven, but that it was a part of the process of being a fashionista and business woman. Even her mom, Muffin, was on hand to help coordinate the girls and provide her hand crocheted Hawaiian snowshoes that all the models wore down the catwalk for the some of the looks.
Out in the crowd, there was a buzz of anticipation fueled by the sounds of DJ FREqNIK who kept everybody moving. The lights went up and the beats broke and flowed as the models descended on the catwalk. First we were wowed by the Couture look, and then blown away by a Rocker Chic look. The final look, Summertime Lovin’, was all about a beach party with fun casual looks ready for a good time. At the end of the show the designer walked with the models one last time to cheers and applause proclaiming that as girls they played house, but as women they build them.
The party continued seamlessly in an adjoining room where vendors supporting Habitat for Humanity mingled with guests. DJ FREqNIK stepped up the flavor even more and the dance battle was on. One by one, dancers hit the floor in displays of break dancing acrobatics and krump stylings as the crowd cheered on into the night.
