Oscar De La Renta’s Ceremony and Stamps

On February 16, 2017 a dedication ceremony of The United States Postal Service was held to honor the Dominican-born fashion designer, Oscar De La Renta. Hilary Clinton, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and others joined the ceremony.

Wintour expressed her thoughts about the famous fashion designer. “I admired and I adored him…he was a guardian to my children, a mentor to me, part of the fabric of my life. I know Oscar would have loved these stamps. He delighted in color and in pattern, in refinement and in fit. And his designs reflected his personality: optimistic and fun and sunny and romantic.”

An editor from the magazine Hola explained to a reporter that Oscar De La Renta loved designing. A friend of Oscar name Frank said that Oscar did his work as a designer because he enjoyed it and not for fame and money.

Hilary Clinton communicated that he was an immigrant “and aren’t we proud and grateful that he was?…let there be many, many more immigrants with the love of America that Oscar De La Renta exemplified every single day,” she added.

Oscar De La Renta died October 20, 2014 at the age of 82. He styled many celebrities. He had moved to New York in 1965 from Dominican Republic. Oscar De La Renta also dressed every first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy. The last well known female he styled was George Clooney’s wife for their wedding.

His influence was pervasive and his goal was to make women wear beautiful clothes. His legacy is strong enough to keep his designs alive even to this day the company “Oscar De La Renta” is still running.
