Playa Del Carmen Club Shooting In Mexico

On Tuesday, January 17, 2016, couple of residents from Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, protested for peace after a beachfront night club shooting took place during the BPM Festival leaving behind 5 dead and 15 injured.

The shooting occurred on Monday, January 16, 2017 before 3 a.m. The nightclub—Blue Parrot is one of the main spots to collaborate with the 10-day festival that happens year round. A DJ that was performing, tweeted that someone entered the nightclub and started shooting and that people were dead.

Alejandra Villanueva Ibarra, an 18 year old is one of the dead victims from the US. Canadian—based BPM security guard Kirk Wilson, 49, and from Italy, Daniel Pessina, and two men name, Rafael Antonio Penalosa Vega, and Geovanni Francisco, both 28 and from Veracruz, Mexico were all victims.

When the shots rang out, people in the nightclub screamed. They ran out as well. Authority figures responded to assistance and rushed to help in the scene. The gunman fled.

Four separate same handwritten messages appeared throughout Playa Del Carmen. It read:

“This is a sign that we are already here because you didn’t align Phillip—BPM, it is the beginning we are going to cut the heads of Golfos, PELONES and Chapulines, Atte [Sincerely] El FAYO Z from the old SCHOOL.”

Fayo Z can be linked to somebody named Rafael del Angel Velez Morales, one of the Zetas leaders from a drug dealer’s group.

Further investigation is being made subsequently with another shooting that happened in Cancun today Tuesday. There has been no arrests.
