The United States Refugee Policy’s Effect

Many Americans aren’t happy with Trump’s refugee policy which took place Friday, January, 27, 2017. The executive order bans people from certain countries of entering the United States for 90 days.

It has drawn protests around the nation and the democrats condemn it. Rob Portman, senator of Ohio and Republican stated, “ You have an extreme vetting proposal that did not get the vetting it should have had.” In addition he saud that congress needs to find a solution. Since our nation has always been welcoming to immigrants and refugees.

There has been concern with families, whose members have dual-citizenship and live outside the U.S would be affected. European Union’s foreign policy chief, Frederica Mogherini, criticized Trump:
“All men are first and foremost human beings, with their inalienable rights….it feels so strange that we need to restate this just days after Holocaust Remembrance Day.”

Meanwhile there are a few country leaders that applauded president Trump’s policy. They were Germany and Italy. “What Trump’s doing on the other side of the ocean, I’d like it done also here,” Matteo Salvini, leader of anti-immigrant from Italy told reporters.

Immigrants, refugees, along with others who go against Trump’s executive order have been protesting even today February 2, 2017.

Responses from those interviewed on the streets have been similar, “We believe that Trump’s action is because of racism,” or “This is a country of immigrants and we come here to work.”

Few days ago, Trump stated that he has signed the executive order to protect America. Currently, there’s been at about 1,000 Yemeni NYC bodega owners that closed their businesses to protest today.
