The fine folks over at TVLine have informed us that Stephanie Corneliussen has joined the cast of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
The Mr.Robot actress will be playing the role of Valentina Vostok, a long present yet seldom sung character in the DC universe. In LoT, Vostok is described as being “a gifted and beautiful Soviet physicist who will stop at nothing to defend her precious ‘Motherland.’” Being a show that will take place over multiple points in time, Vostok’s appearance is said to occur during “the height of the Cold War”.
Created by Paul Kupperberg and Joe Staton in 1977, Valentina Vostok made her comic debut in Showcase #94. In the comics, Vostok was a Russian pilot who — after stealing an experimental Russian fighter plane in order to defect to the United States — was forced to make a crash-landing on the site where the Doom Patrol was believed to have perished. There, she encountered the negative energy being once fused with Doom Patrol member Negative Man, and was in turn transformed into Negative Woman. It is doubtful that LoT will go that route with Vostok in the series (this writer is still holding out for a live-action Doom Patrol movie), but I suppose time – no pun intended – will tell on the scope and scale of Corneliussen’s role.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will also star Victor Garber, Brandon Routh (Superman Returns, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World), Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who), Caity Lotz (Arrow), Ciarra Renee (Pippin), and Franz Drameh (Edge of Tomorrow), with Dominic Purcell (The Flash, Prison Break) and Wentworth Miller (The Flash, Prison Break), and focuses on time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter, who has to recruit a rag-tag team of heroes and villains to help prevent an apocalypse that could impact not only Earth, but all of time.
Bonanza Productions Inc, in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television brings us this next addition to the ever-growing ‘Flarrow’ universe, based on the characters of DC Comics. Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl) serves as executive producer alongside Marc Guggenheim (Eli Stone, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters), Andrew Kreisberg (Warehouse 13, The Flash) and Sarah Schechter (The Flash).
