With last month’s departure of Seth Grahame-Smith as the film’s director, Warner Bros.’ The Flash movie has switched hands to Dope director, Rick Famuyiwa. Deadline reports that WB has hired Famuyiwa to helm their silver screen adaptation of DC’s famed scarlet speedster.
Along with scripting and directing Dope, Famuyiwa’s is also noted for directing the recent HBO historical drama, Confirmation which stars Kerry Washington, Wendell Pierce, and Greg Kinnear, and tells the true story of Anita Hill’s sexual harassment case against then-U.S. Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas.
Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, We Need to Talk About Kevin) will play the lead role of Barry Allen/The Flash in the DCU’s film iteration. Previously, Miller made his debut as Allen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The Flash boasts an original treatment by The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Look for it to hit theaters March 16, 2018. Justice League will hit first, however, targeting a November 17, 2017 debut.
