The screenwriter and producer gave word to Collider that the third — believed final — Wolverine film will be giving the X-Men franchise’s most brutal and beloved mutant (next to Deadpool of course) a proper sendoff with a hard-R rating.
“I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say about that. I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film,”
Filming for Wolverine 3 has apparently already begun.
Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart will reprise their roles as Wolverine and Professor Charles Xavier respectively. Jackman, apparently bearing his claws for the last time in the X-Men franchise, will be by joined by Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant, Eriq La Salle and Elise Neal.
Rumor is also floating around X-23 — Wolverine’s daughter — will also be making an appearance in the film. James Mangold will once again direct the Wolverine, from a script provided by David James Kelly.
Mangold’s previous film, The Wolverine, saw a significantly more violent Unrated cut of the film after it’s theater release. The resounding success of the Deadpool solo film (currently enjoying its place as the highest grossing R-rated film of all time) no doubt gives credence to Wolverine’s final romp being a bloody one.
Currently filming, Wolverine 3 is set for theater release some time in 2017. Until then, stay plugged in to SEV for more Comic Nook News as it develops.
