It’s a new thing for those with perm, white-crack, heat damage, dried, dyed, and static hair flies to “go natural”. Sorry to say but you are returning to your natural-born hair. You are attempting to achieve hair corresponding to the same state it was in when your mother was brushing and greasing your scalp as a child.
Besides the messed up connotation of beauty, in reality your hair was always good, before the man-made hot combs, flat irons, and relaxers. Maybe the images on tv or in the magazine configured your idea of beauty as something other than what you are. Remember that the true essence of beauty is whats inside of you or how you portray your true
self. Although “natural hair” refers to afro hair, anyone can be natural. Regardless of your race, your natural hair is the condition it’s in without and chemical alterations, or dyes. Natural isn’t a style, it’s who you truly are within. Under the makeup, wigs, perm and weave is your true identity. Yes, its fun to switch up our character, and try new trends, but when you feel that someone else’s hair texture is superior, there’s a problem. Girls on social media such as instagram are seen praising 38 in Malaysian hair when they’ve never been out of America. Your fake hair is “on fleek” but is your real hair “on fleek”. Once again, its fun to change your look but are you prepared to show the world your true beauty? There’s nothing wrong with wearing weave but if you don’t have it are you still on fleek?
It won’t be funny when a school girl is made fun of for having natural hair by a foolish peer. Kids are cruel and it happens. In order for little girls to feel secure with themselves, they need an impression that its ok to be confident in their own hair. Part of feeling confident is being secure about yourself. Anyone who looks down upon someone else’s hair texture should be laughed at!
There is an underlying problem with the excessive praising of fake hair. The obsession over someones texture hair other than your own can lead to the following scenario: Two females with the same natural curly texture hair. One of the females with straight, chemically treated hair acts foolishly by opposing the other females curly hair and makes a mockery of it. Representation matters!
